My wayward son.

there’ll be peace when you are done

Lay your weary head to rest.

don’t you cry no more

And in the distance, there is the sound of the Supernatural fandom crying.

Tony built Dum-E and U back in MIT and has kept them for over two decades.
Despite all the threats and insults he’s made (and the fact that he is more than capable of building better AIs), he still lets them help out, and they help him out.
They’ve saved his life once, helped him out too many times to count, and in turn, he saves them back at the end.

“Chess!” Tony whirled around. “Well, I missed your cupcakes.”

She snorted loudly but grinned. “You turd. Hey, did you get the package I sent on your birthday? Dad said it’s supposed to be a damn good scotch, but obviously neither of us tried it. He’s not big on whiskey anymore.” She hoped the cupcakes hadn’t gotten too squashed on the way.

“Downed the whole bottle in four days. It was excellent. Plus there was the benefit of having the cupcakes as padding. I got -er- made something for your birthday, but you were at your parents’ and trust me I could not have shipped it without going insane. So I figured I’d wait until you came back.”

“Can’t say I’m really surprised. Glad you liked it, at least.” She stood and took another sip of coffee. “Oh really? I feel like I should be nervous, but I’ll bite. What did you make? Ooh, ooh, is it a pony?!”

"Ah, no. Though you may squeal like it is one when you see it." Tony hit a button on a remote to turn a section of the wall around. "Close your eyes, hold out your hands. Remember that suit I said I’d finish way back when?"

shieldscheshirecat:

Ah, no I still haven’t cleaned it up and I’ll let you know when he tells me.

Great. I’ll remember to be extra nice and cooperative around him when I go back this week. Well, in the meantime, I guess that just means you get to hole up in the lab more, huh?

Something like that.

I wish that I wore braces.

//uh no you don’t they are painful as fuck and they dig into the side of your mouth

// i need them badly and my parents wont help me out by getting me them so i dont like foolish when i smile

//I just got them yesterday and they hurt so flippin bad. There’s like a large amount of pressure on your teeth and they rock back and forth when adjusting. I haven’t eaten anything proper because it hurts so much

I had full mouth braces for three years.  They suck.

//I want them off so bad. I haven’t even lasted a week yet

//I had braces for four years during grade school- If they’re still bothering you in two weeks or if there is a sudden unexpected spike in the pain and discomfort, go back to the orthodontist. In the meantime, stick to squishy foods, ice cream is great for helping the soreness, and have Alieve or Advil handy. Avoid crackers as you get adjusted to the braces, I bit my lips so many times trying to eat goldfish. It will go down in a few days, I remember my first tightening it took about a week for me to adjust. The first time really is the worst, and even though other tightenings will make your mouth uncomfortable for a few days it won’t usually be as bad as the first time. And look on the bright side- you’ll have straight pearly whites at the end of it all. Good luck!

“GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME BACK, MISS SINCLAIR. IT’S NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN. WILL YOU REQUIRE ANY ASSISTANCE WITH YOUR LUGGAGE?”

“Nice hearing you, too, JARVIS. Uh, no thanks, but I’m definitely taking the elevator up.”

“IT IS ON IT’S WAY.”

“Thanks, bro.”

Thea managed to lug all her crap into the elevator that arrived only a few seconds later. Inside the car, she let out a heavy breath though puffed cheeks and scrunched lips and watched the sleek metal door close. There was no jerk as the car started gliding upward toward the living floors in Stark Tower, just a smooth sensation of movement.

It was weird to be back after five, six months. She was really damn relieved, though. Another week with her mom and dad and she might have thrown herself into the lake. She adored her parents, really she did, but now that her dad was retired and they’d moved to a much more isolated and secure house in Michigan (which S.H.I.E.L.D. had acquired for them), they’d become almost impossible to live with. She thought she might hurl if she ever had to watch another daytime fishing show.

It wasn’t long before JARVIS announced that she had reached the main living room. The door slid open and she peered out. It was brightly lit, but there was no sign of anyone. Maybe Tony and Pepper were actually in bed? Not necessarily together, though that would be pretty amazing, and probably nice for them. The thought of Tony sleeping in an actual bed… actually, just the thought of Tony sleeping at all, seemed outrageous but she hoped it was the case. JARVIS chimed in then as though he’d heard her thoughts (which would be pretty nifty if he had, and also potentially worrying).

“MISTER STARK IS CURRENTLY IN THE LAB, AND MISS POTTS IS OVERSEEING AFFAIRS FOR THE UPCOMING STARK EXPO.”

Of course. Never a break for them. “Thanks, bro. Could I persuade you to turn on some coffee to brew and queue the new series of Doctor Who? I’ll vegetate for a bit and wait for Tony’s super-sniffer to detect fresh coffee.”

“RIGHT AWAY, MISS SINCLAIR.”

Thea began the arduous process of getting all her stuff to her room. She’d left with a lot, but she’d come back with even more and it was actually quite alarming. Her 22nd birthday had passed in Michigan and her mom had pulled out the stops, as had certain of their extended family. The amount of random junk she’d acquired from that even alone was stupid. Over the next half hour, she settled, put some things away and found places for new stuff. By the time she was done, the coffee was waiting and Eleven was happily riding a triceratops across the large screen in the living room. Not the first ep, but she didn’t care.

Thea scrunched onto the couch, hands clutching the coffee mug, and found her eyes drifting to the big windows. The New York skyline glimmered on the other side of the glass in the last light of sunset. It felt really good to be back. But things weren’t entirely the same. They couldn’t be. Thea had spent a lot of time thinking, which was about the only other thing to do in Michigan other than watch TV with her dad and chat with Mom over fresh apple pie. She felt different, not necessarily more grown up, just… like she had direction now. She wasn’t overeager to go back to S.H.I.E.L.D., but she no longer dreaded it. Finishing up her training courses and pushing paper in the meantime didn’t seem like such a daunting, unpleasant task now. She kinda was looking forward to it. And by the time she was done and ready to move up, maybe she and the high-ups would have found a better purpose for her. She still wanted to be a part of the Avengers Initiative, but maybe there were other ways she could be of use, too. She didn’t know. She wouldn’t know yet, but she was more excited about her future than she had been in a long time.

She heard the soft swoosh of the elevator coming to a stop and smiled. Right on cue, she thought. The door slid open, and she glanced towards the elevator reflected in the glass of the panoramic windows. “Hey, old man. Miss me?”

It was definitely good to be home.

"Chess!" Tony whirled around. "Well, I missed your cupcakes."

agelessagentofshield:

Right, no guarantees on how long that’ll last.

“Of course not. Well, I’ll just keep my fingers crossed then, shall I? You seem to be… if I may risk being a bit rude… more or less stable at the moment. Perhaps there is hope.”

Tony shrugged. “I wouldn’t get used to it. Ask Fury.”
